Novato has the good fortune of being home to many award-winning California wineries, so relax and toast your good fortune with a glass of locally made award-winning wine at Trek Winery — Novato’s family-owned tasting room. Situated in the heart of Old Town, this large, spacious gathering place blends a modern floor plan and rustic earth tones with cozy seating clusters, bar tables, and a gorgeous heated outdoor patio area with conversation nooks and fire-pits. The winery also hosts an impressive monthly entertainment roster of live musicians and bands, along with “A list” comedy shows.
Just one block away on Grant Avenue is Mantra Wines tasting room. Family owned and run, the friendly team offer wine tasting flights, as well as wines by the glass or the bottle. Mantra has stylish couches, private lounge nooks to cosy up in, and the walls are adorned with works by local artists. There’s also an outdoor area for those who prefer to enjoy their bubbles in the sunshine. Mantra is a firm favorite with locals and has an open mic night on Thursdays and live music every Saturday, so make sure you grab a seat early.
Novato is also the proud home of historical Pacheco Ranch Winery, named for patron California pioneer Ignacio Pacheco, who settled here in 1840 and is credited with planting the first grape vines in this region. Nestled on a gently sloping hillside off Alameda del Prado in Ignacio, the winery is still owned and operated by Pacheco’s descendants who occupy the original two-story stately Italianate estate (circa 1876) and continue to produce fine handcrafted Cabernets. Pacheco Ranch Winery is open for tours, tastings, and special events by appointment only.
