No trip in Novato would be complete without a visit to the Golden Gate bridge, one of the seven wonders of the modern world.
The bridge offers breathtaking views in all seasons and can be especially dramatic when the bay fog is swirling around the huge structures, suddenly parting to reveal Alcatraz Island or the Pacific Ocean before hiding them again just as quickly.
Pedestrians – including wheelchair users and bicyclists – can use the sidewalks of the Golden Gate Bridge during daylight hours and there are vista points on both north and south sides of the bridge with parking lots.
You can also arrange a personally guided 45 minute tour of and hear about the amazing challenges involved in creating the 1.7 mile span which was once called ‘the bridge that couldn’t be built’.
