New Orleans trumpeter Kermit Ruffins visits Novato’s HopMonk Tavern as part of the West Coast leg of his tour to promote his latest album. A fixture of the New Orleans music scene, Kermit hit the national spotlight with multiple performances in HBO’s New Orleans drama Treme, and as a guest on Top Chef. New York Times jazz critic Jon Pareles said of his playing, “Mr. Ruffins is an unabashed entertainer who plays trumpet with a bright, silvery tone, sings with off-the-cuff charm and never gets too abstruse in his material.”
This Novato stop-over on his Californian tour is an opportunity to catch an authentic taste of New Orleans jazz, from the man who was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from the judges of the NOLA Music Awards. When it comes to jazz, Kermit knows his stuff and is not to be missed.
