Altered Worlds: 2023 Annual Members Exhibition

Saturday, January 14 – Sunday, March 12, 2023

Juried by Chester Arnold, Altered Worlds free exhibition features 67 MarinMOCA member artists. Over his 50-year career, Sonoma-based painter Chester Arnold has been known for his observations capturing a world increasingly altered and unrecognizable. This exhibition takes Arnold’s influential work as a point of departure and invites a wide range of approaches that explore the significant environmental and emotional shifts that we experience every day.

“The general museum-going public is still looking for art that is beautiful, that they can hang on the wall. But I feel painting could be more than that. It should raise questions and raise the hairs on the back of your neck. It can be used to explore issues that are more troubling than reassuring …We become so bound up in what we’re doing that we cease to see the world objectively, and I think that’s one of the great values that art can have, that nature can have, that moments alone can have,” says Arnold.

The Artists of MarinMOCA is a vital community of 150 artists who support and sustain the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art and the creative endeavors of its members. Opportunities to exhibit at MarinMOCA and at satellite venues are available to artist members, along with a range of other museum benefits.
