KC Turner Presents: Jake Xerxes Fussell with Erin Chapin

KC Turner Presents acclaimed folk musician Jake Xerxes Fussell, performing live at HopMonk Tavern in Novato. Hailed by NPR’s Ann Powers as “maybe the leading interpreter of American folk music right now,” Fussell brings his unique perspective on traditional music to this intimate venue.

Based in Durham, NC, Jake Xerxes Fussell’s intuitive creative process draws from traditional music and archival field recordings, incorporating elements of songs from the past into compelling new work. His most recent album, When I’m Called, released by Fat Possum Records in summer 2024, received widespread critical acclaim. The album was produced by James Elkington and features Blake Mills (guitars), Ben Whiteley (bass), and Joe Westerlund (drums), with additional vocals from Joan Shelley and Robin Holcomb.

Fussell and Elkington also wrote and recorded the music for Rebuilding, a feature film directed by Max Walker-Silverman that premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.

Special Guest: Erin Chapin of Rainbow Girls

Tickets: Available on the HopMonk Tavern website.
