Teo Quale, a multi-instrumentalist from Alameda, CA, is the mandolinist and co-founder of Crying Uncle Duo, Crying Uncle Bluegrass Band, and Jubilee. He has performed with Special Consensus, Missy Raines & Allegheny, Brothers Comatose, Sam Reider’s Human Hands, Sister Sadie, and Pascal Bokar’s AfroBlueGrazz Band. A 2021 IBMA Instrumentalist Award nominee, Teo has won multiple state and national titles, including the 2018 CA State Picking Contest and two National Fiddle Championships. He studied with Catherine Manning, Sharon Gilchrist, Tristan Clarridge, and Mike Marshall, and will attend UC Berkeley in 2025.
Miles Quale, also from Alameda, is the fiddler and co-founder of the same groups. He has performed with Darol Anger, Mike Marshall, Brittany Haas, Marty Stuart, and Pascal Bokar’s AfroBlueGrazz Band. Miles has won national and state fiddle contests, including the 2019 Youth Grand Master Fiddlers Championship, and placed 4th in the 2023 Open Division. A Whippoorwill Arts Fellow, he studies Global Jazz and Astrophysics at UCLA.
Andrew Osborn, from San Rafael, is an award-winning upright bassist, trombonist, and vocalist who has performed with Crying Uncle Bluegrass Band and Festival Speed. He studies Mechanical Engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
Ian Ly, a San Francisco-based flatpick guitarist and 2023 National Flat Pick Guitar Champion, studied under Steve Palazzo and Jake Workman and is pursuing Visual Communications Design at San Francisco State University.
